Chapter 17

Saturday, 1 April 2017

Wednesday was my 17th birthday (whoo!) so I wanted to write a post about how I spent the day as I think posts like this will be really nice to look back on in the future. I'm officially a dancing queen, yay!
In the morning I woke up early to find my mum and brother downstairs presenting me with two ginormous pink 17 balloons. I don't know about you but I think the big number balloons are one of the best things about birthdays. After that I opened a few cards and gifts before my brother went to school (I think he was gutted he couldn't use it as an excuse to stay home). Does anyone else do that thing where they go into full Oscar actor mode by trying to pretend you're shocked when you receive money in a card? I opened the rest over brekkie in bed, it was so lush.

I pretty much told everybody I just wanted money, it's not like when I was younger and just asked for anything Doctor Who related, and I've been planning to save up enough moolah for driving lessons. My brother actually did really good this year; he got me a few makeup bits and a mini bottle of rosé in a super cute sparkly box with shredded tissue paper in it. It definitely beat a handmade card and "his presence as a present". As this was my first Birthday since having Lola my Mum decided to write me a birthday card from her, she did the same thing for Mother's Day too. She's mad.

It always seems to rain on my Birthday and true to form, it was absolutely chucking it down all day. Even though the weather was a shambles we wanted to go for a beach walk. If you know me you'll know that the beach is my favourite place in the entire world. I just find it really relaxing and like the TLSP says "the coastal air gets a girl to reflect", it really does. We went to Rotherslade, a beach close to my house, and sat and chatted over hot chocolate in the surfside cafe while watching the rain. I love it there, it's so quiet and chilled and the beach huts are really pretty too.

In the evening we went to The Mermaid, one of my fave restaurants. For most of the meal we were the only ones in there as it was that period after the lunch rush but before dinner. It felt like it had been exclusively booked out for us and I absolutely hate busy restaurants so I was pretty chuffed with that. After eating too much pizza, we popped over to my Nan and Grandad's house to finally tuck into that huge chocolate cake; I've honestly never seen so much chocolate on one cake.

After seeing people rave about this app RADVHS on twitter I downloaded it to film when everyone sang Happy Birthday (I always want the ground to swallow me up as soon as everyone starts singing to me, anyone else?). The screenshot is grainy and bad quality but I actually love the vintage home video effect, it reminds me of when my Mum would follow us around with the old camcorder when we were younger.

As much as a cringe at the attention and focus being on me on my Birthday, they make you feel really special don't they? I had some really nice bday messages and cards and the whole day was just right up my street, relaxed and not too much fuss but still really lovely.

I'm looking forward to seeing what 17 brings. Is it your Birthday soon?
