Brand Closeup: Maybelline

Tuesday, 20 June 2017

I've been meaning to start these posts from the very beginning of the year when I made this blog. I knew that I wanted to publish posts that zoomed in on specific brands that I love so I could share a little info on them and present my most loved products they create. I'm not completely sure how many I'll do or how often but they'll predominantly be focusing on cosmetic products like makeup, hair etc.

Now, I'd say at least 95% of my makeup drawer is highstreet/drugstore makeup. As nice as it would be to be able to splash the cash on chanel makeup, that's not really me so I'm certain most will follow the pattern of being affordable brand focuses.

For the first instalment I thought I'd kick it off with a display of one of my most loved and most used brands; Maybelline.

A bit about Maybelline:
Company Origin: America
Cruelty Free: No
Price Range: Affordable/Highstreet
Products: Cosmetics
Parent Company: L'Oreal

My Favourites:
Lash Sensational Mascara £8.99
I remember using this when it was first released thinking I was so original and that I'd discovered this amazing new mascara that nobody knew about. I couldn't have been more wrong. Not long after, literally everybody was raving about it across blogs and youtube. It's hands down the best mascara I've used and is actually the only mascara I've been using since first trying it. God knows how many I've bought but unless I come across another earth shattering mascara, I can't see myself giving this one up.

Master Brow Pro Palette Kit £8.99
This is a recent purchase but I love it because it's just like my trustee collection brow kit that I've been using for ages. I much prefer the powder brow kits because they give a softer more natural look compared to pencils that can be too harsh sometimes. It's just really simple with no fuss so I know there's not much that can go wrong when I use it. It gives the look of a fuller brow whilst still appearing natural which I love.

Age Rewind Eye Concealer £8.99
I bought this after my much-loved collection lasting perfection concealer ran out and I think this one might be just as good (that's saying a lot because I live for the coverage of the collection concealers). It does an amazing job at covering up my dark circles and brightens up the whole eye area making me look much more awake and fresh. The formula is so smooth and so easy to blend and the coverage is just amazing. Definitely worth the hype.

Dream Satin Liquid Foundation £7.99
If truth be told, I'm not a huge fan of Maybelline foundations and usually stick to my Rimmel ones. However, I bought this one on a whim because it reminded me of when I'd pinch my mum's Dream Matte Mousse back in the day. I can confirm that this is significantly better than the matte mouse, although it doesn't take a lot does it? It's got such a creamy consistency that's easy to blend. I'd say the coverage is light to medium; it doesn't completely cover everything I want it to but I wear it more for when I want a lightweight foundation when I'm not wearing much makeup. I saw everyone say it feels satin smooth once applied so made it my mission to test that when I bought it; I can definitely see what people mean, it makes your skin feel silky.

Matte Lipstick In Nude Embrace 930 £6.99
I've already mentioned this gem on my blog before but I can't stress how nice it is. It's everything I look for in lip products; matte, long lasting and nude. What more could you want? I reach for this the most out of all of my lip products and just find that its a super casual wearable lipstick for everyday use. It's a really classic nude shade which is right up my street and doesn't feel drying or flaky throughout the day.

Colourstay Lip Liner In Nude Whisper £3.99
This lip liner is an exact match for the Nude Embrace lipstick which blends really nicely with the formula of the lippy. I don't really over-line my lips too much but I did try it once and it didn't look ridiculous like some liners have turned out and I think it's down to the consistency not being too thick and clumpy. It blends well with the lipstick so it doesn't stand out too much. I prefer to use the twisty lip liners (definitely not the professional term) than the pencils just because they feel easier to apply because they're not stiff.

Do you have any other faves from Maybelline?

Liv x

  1. I'm not really into my high-end makeup either so will be great to see what you think about other drugstore brands! I've only just picked up the lash sensational mascara so a bit late on that one! And I really like the concealer but I've heard a lot of bad reviews! It always seems to work well for me, just runs out quite quickly so I haven't repurchased for a while!xx

  5. I'm with you in that I prefer buying drugstore products, I recently splurged on a high end product and I'm not even sure it was worth it to be honest! I love the gel eyeliner from Maybelline, and I brought that concealer a few months ago which is great for a more dewy look for me :) xx
