Healthy Chinese Fakeaway Chow Mein Recipe

Sunday, 20 August 2017

Before you ask, no it's not a pan of worms and cat poo although it kind of does look like it. Today I want to share a recipe my Mum and I tried the other day that I'm absolutely obsessed with. It's this chow mein recipe that's healthy but actually tastes like normal chow mein. It's a slimming world recipe so it's syn free and low fat. My sister made it and brought some over for us to try and I couldn't believe how similar it was to the chow mein you'd buy at the chinese takeaway. So we made some a few days ago and I felt like everyone needs to know about this recipe.

Ingredients
250g Egg Noodles
2 Handfulls of Beansprouts
1tsp Chopped Ginger
1 Pack of Beef Strips (400g)
1 Chopped Onion
3 Chopped Spring Onions
3tbsp Soy Sauce
3tbsp Oyster Sauce
Black Pepper

Method

1. Add the chopped ginger to a few sprays of fry light oil (healthier than using normal oil) and the beef strips. Fry for a few minutes until the beef browns.

2. Add the onion, spring onions, and beansprouts and fry for a further 2 minutes.

3. In a bowl, add 3tbsp of soy sauce and marinade the egg noodles in it.

4. Add the noodles to the wok and fry for 2 more minutes.

5. Mix in the 3tbsp of oyster sauce and season with black pepper.

It's literally as easy as that and is so similar to takeaway chow mein.
I love it!!

    1. There are actually quite a few homemade oyster sauce recipes that are vegan+vegetarian friendly. You could use hoisin sauce though x
