Insight Into My Christmas Day 2017

Wednesday, 27 December 2017

I can't quite believe Christmas has come and gone. We're well and truly in that strange period between Boxing Day and New Year's Day when nobody knows what day it is or what's going on. The days just all kind of merge into one. As I'm writing this I'm sat on the sofa watching Only Fools and Horses with Lola and a box of roses by my side. Today is the first day I changed out of my pyjamas since boxing day (what a slob) and I actually put some makeup on and made somewhat of an effort with my appearance. I still haven't left the house though. This time kinda feels like a bubble where the world stops and you just chill at home with family and leftovers.
I didn't think I'd be uploading another blogpost until New Year's Eve but I just couldn't stay away. I started to feel the need to write when I was looking through photos on my camera from the past week. So I thought I'd share a few photos from Christmas.

We all woke up later than usual this Christmas and I got out of bed at around half 8. Already on snapchat there were photos and videos of people who had been up since 6 and earlier. I don't know how people do it. So then we had our typical Christmas french breakfast and anxiously waited for everyone else to get up so we could exchange presents. I still feel like a small child when I'm sat in the living room looking at everyones wrapped gifts. The excitement is still the same as when I was young. I was very lucky to receive some amazing gifts. Everyone was so generous and I feel so grateful to have such lovely presents. I enjoyed giving people presents much more though. I know everyone says it but it's so true. The look on people's faces makes the christmas shopping stress all worth it. On Christmas Eve we visited my grandparents in the evening as we wouldn't be seeing them christmas day. We bought them a turntable for all their old records and single LP's because they'd been talking about wanting one for months. They were so happy; almost in tears. After a few gins, me and my nan were dancing around the kitchen to The Beach Boys and Neil Diamond. I'm pretty sure there's some video evidence which worries me a little. I was quite merry.

After presents we all got ready, took lots of photos before sitting down for lunch. I fucking love christmas dinner. My mum slaves over that cooker and consistently produces the most incredible lunch. She deserves a medal that lady. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. We were well and truly STUFFED afterwards so we retired to the sofa to watch TV. A few of us ended up having a nap because we were so shattered. Eating can be such hard work lol.

I was very happy with my makeup on Christmas Day. I always take hundreds of photos so I make sure I look half decent. In the photos I am wearing:
Body Shop Clay Foundation
Lottie London Highlighter
Makeup Revolution Cream Contour Palette
Morphe Bronzed Mocha Eyeshadow Palette
Soap and Glory Liquid Eyeliner
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade
Maybelline Lash Sensational
Eyelure 101 Volume Fake Lashes
Bourjois Hot Pepper Liquid Lipstick
It's mad how confident some fake eyelashes and a red lip can make you feel. I bought my jumper from ASOS last minute but I fricken love it. It made me feel like I was about to go skiing in the 1970's. The sleeves felt so retro too, wide and puffed. I've always gone with an ugly looking red and green sweater but I love the colour yellow so I just had to buy it.

In the evening we went to my Uncle's house for drinks and a buffet. I discovered my love for kopperburg raspberry and chomped away on chicken sticks (even though I was still absolutely stuffed from lunch). There was quite the dance off going on between a few family members, including a unique rendition of gangnam style. I couldn't dance to save my life so I was happy sitting with my cidre videoing it instead. I'm so sad Christmas is over. I'm gonna miss the music and anticipation for the day. I guess I'll have to make do clinging on to the magic that's left. Turkey and lots of champagne.

I hope you all had a very merry christmas. And if you didn't, it's totally normal. Christmas can be a time where people struggle even more than usual with their mental health and it can be hard if you're having family issues too. Even if you had a bit of a shitty christmas, I wish you a very happy new year. Good things will come.
