Naked Skin Foundation And Concealer: Worth The Hype?

Wednesday, 10 January 2018

Urban Decay is easily one of my all time favourite brands. Their Naked Palettes are a classic and always reliable eyeshadow go-to. Their setting sprays and eyeshadow primers are some of the best base makeup products I've ever used. One thing I hadn't tried was any of their foundations or concealers even though I'd heard so many people rant and rave about them. So with the sale on feelunique.com I couldn't stop myself from buying them to try them out once and for all.

Like I said, I've seen a lot of hype revolving around these 2 products, especially the concealer, so I won't lie about the fact I had high hopes. Since first testing it out about 10 days ago and giving it a chance by wearing it a few times, I'm sad to say I'm really disapointed. I was expecting to absolutely love the products and come onto my blog and ramble on for ages about how blown away I am and how incredible they are. But they're not.

If I'm brutally honest, I can't stand this foundation. And that makes me so sad to say. It costs £28.50 so I thought for that amount of money it was going to be a bloody good foundation. Unfortunately, it's just really not for me. Even if I do really adore the packaging.

Formula
It's a really watery consistency which I've never really tested before. I've had thinner foundations that make blending a little easier but this one is just really weird. It's too watery. When I apply it with a brush it just slides around my face and doesn't blend in very well so ends up taking ages to get it to how I want it to look. And it's even worse when I use a makeup sponge or beauty blender. The sponge absorbs the foundation so quickly because of how runny it is so I have to use so many pumps it's ridiculous. The smell of the formula is another thing that really puts me off. It smells really strong of chemicals and plastic which reminds me of a cheap foundation that would most definitely break out your skin. I'm worried it's starting to break my out but it's hard to tell because my skin is more prone to spots in this dry and cold weather.

Finish&Coverage
Overall, the coverage isn't too bad. It says light to medium on the bottle but it's definitely buildable. And with the concealer, you can get quite good coverage. The finish isn't great though. It really clings to the dry patches across my face so my face just looks and feels gross. I have combination skin so I think it would work better on oily skin, although I'm not entirely sure. It might just slide around on oily skin.

Shade Range
One thing I did really like is the shade range of the foundation; there are 23 shades in total. I went for the shade 1.0 which was slightly too light for me but 2.0 (the next shade down) looked too dark. Maybe it would be good to mix the shades. The foundation has a yellow undertone to it which is different to the pink undertones I'm used to. I think a yellow undertone definitely suits me more so that's one thing I've learnt from testing it.

The Concealer
In all fairness, this is a pretty good concealer. My only problem is that I've tried high street concealers that are much much cheaper that are a lot better. But I would 100% say it's a good concealer and I'll definitely continue using it. There's not much to say about it really; it's your average concealer that does the job well. I've had no problems with it as far as my sensitive skin either.

Formula
Thankfully, the formula of this is much better than the foundation. It's really smooth and creamy and so easy to blend into the skin which is just what you want. It doesn't have a smell either (hooray) so I'm not put off using it.

Finish&Coverage
It his has a really nice finish which doesn't extenuate my dry skin at all. It's matte but not drying. The coverage it really good for under eye areas as well as spots or blemishes and covers them really well too. Overall, very happy with how the concealer looks.

So all in all, a good concealer but not a great foundation. But I suppose not every makeup review can be 5 stars. You've got to share your thoughts on the negative ones too. And of course, everyone's skin and makeup preferences are different so some of you might absolutely love and swear by the foundation. I guess you just have to try it for yourself but it's frustrating that they're that expensive and not great quality. I still love urban decay though, I think I'll just stick to their eyeshadow palettes.

Have you tried any of the products mentioned?
What do you think?

  2. I personally haven't tried the foundation or the concealer, but have heard many things about both from friends. I am genuinely shocked about the foundation! Does it oxidise at all? I have been told it does that.

  7. that is such a shame to hear about the foundation, how rubbish considering it's really expensive! I totally know what you mean re drugstore concealers, I use concealer far too often for me to justify a higher end one like UD although it's good to know that it isn't bad on dry skin! xx
