The Year Of Change | Goodbye 2018

Sunday, 30 December 2018

I actually can't believe 2018 is over with. I seriously look back and can't see where the time has gone. Especially the last three months, they just flew by and disappeared in a flash. It kind of feels like a blur to be honest and so much happened that the months feel like they all merged into one. I had so many "firsts" in 2018 and I'm proud as hell for doing some of the shit I've done. Makes me so excited for next year and all of the good things coming up. These reflecting type of posts are so cool to read so I'm going to pick some of the highlights for me and put them here.

18th Birthday
Funnily enough, 18 is my lucky number so turning 18 in 2018 has so much meaning now. I feel really lucky for everything that's gone on this year. My 18th was everything I wanted it to be, family orientated and all about celebrating with the people around me I value most. Of course turning 18 came with the freedom of *legally* going out drinking/clubbing which I never thought I'd be into that much but I've grown to love. Some of my fave memories of the year have come from those impromptu nights out where I make myself look like a tit and chat shit (like the night I bravely followed a guy into the loo because he looked like tinie tempah oops). Being 18 has treated me well so far so I can't wait to see what 19 brings.

Amsterdam
This trip feels like so long ago but it was the best few days ever. It was the first time I'd got on an aeroplane which was a massive achievement for me (took a few valiums mind but got there in the end) and I loved the whole experience. Amsterdam itself now has a special place in my heart because it's somewhere I felt so comfortable and happy to be. It's so beautiful and vibrant there and I'd go back right now if I could. My poor camera roll was quickly filled up with the prettiest canal photos and pictures of the architecture but every photo I see has the best memories attached to it.

The Biggest Weekend
This whole situation was so last minute but it was such a highlight for me. BBC Radio 1 host the biggest weekend in places around the UK and this year it was held in Swansea, where I live. Me and a group of gals went down on the Sunday and watched some amazing people perform. It was the closest thing to a festival I've ever been to and at that point I'd never even been to a concert so it was so cool to go. I still can't quite believe I've seen Jason Derulo, J Hus, Florence & The Machine, Taylor Swift and Demi Lavato live. Was such a cool day and we had so much fun frolicking around the park covered in glitter drinking pint after pint lol.

Chopping Off My Hair For Charity
After a beautiful, kind, and inspirational family member passed away from Cancer this year I felt like I wanted to do something in her honour. She was the bravest and most positive person I've ever met so I wanted to do something to give back. The little princess trust is a charity which takes hair that people donate and make wigs for people who have cancer. I can't think of a better charity to donate to so I cut 7 inches of hair off and sent it off. I used to be so protective of my hair and never wanted to even have a trim because I wanted long hair but I've realised it's just hair and it's literally meaningless when you think of what these people are facing. I'm so glad I did it.

On The Run Tour 2
I've just been watching all of the videos I took at the concert and I feel so so lucky I experienced it. I'm shocked I managed to go because a year ago I would've never gone to a concert because of anxiety so being able to go to this massive stadium and sit right at the top in a sea of people is something I'm so chuffed I've done. I've always been a Beyonce and Jay Z fan since I was young so it was incredible to experience them live. If you ever get the opportunity, fucking grab it because they're amazing.

The New Job
In the summer I started my new job which is the first time I've worked in retail before. I'm so happy I started because I've met the best people who make work feel less painful lol. I complain about work constantly but in all honestly I'm lucky to be where I am now and have such amazing people around me. I suppose I do enjoy retail sometimes too, just maybe not the rude customers and accidentally spending all my wages on the clothes oops.

Passing My Driving Test
After 4 close attempts I finally passed the driving test. Every attempt was painfully close with 1-4 minors each time but I finally passed just before my trip to London and Paris which was such a relief. I'd been learning on and off for about a year and after 3 instructors I quickly progressed and finally passed in September. I got my little blue corsa on the road and now I've got the skrrrrt freedom I'd been looking forward to for so so long. And I won't have to get the bus again so I'm absolutely over the moon.

London/Paris
Mid-September rolled around and it was time for the back to back trip we'd planned for months. Me and the fam went to london and up to herfordshire to see family then after a few days I went off to Paris. It was the most tiring few days of travelling but for some reason travelling just makes me the happiest and most confident person. Paris is the most beautiful place I've ever seen and it's full of the nicest people, food and views. Again, I took hundreds of photos and plastered them over my social media but it was the most photogenic place ever. I can't wait to go back next year.
The last few months of the year have been purely about working, A Levels, UCAS applications and christmas prep. Not the most exciting but I'm really looking forward to making plans for 2019, uni and lots of travelling to come woooo.
